The Blackest of Friday's
I have never done the whole black Friday thing before, so this year when Dave wanted to buy a gigantic tv for the bonus room at RC Willey he started to look at Black Friday ads. I prayed he wouldn't find one and that we could both sleep in on Friday and enjoy a comfy morning in bed. Unfortunately my prayer was not answered. Not only did he find a TV he just HAD TO HAVE, but he found a tool box set that was a must have too. So Thanksgiving night after all of the family left, we planned for the next morning. We set our alarm for 3:45 (only a 15 minutes earlier than a normal day) we woke up at 4:00am and bundled up. I thought we might have to wait out side for a little while so I dressed warm. I figured we would wait in the car most of the morning and only have to stand outside for a bit, either way I dressed in boots, gloves, sweatshirt, hoodie and warm socks. We made it to Sears around 4:20am and walked right in. It was busy but nothing too crazy. We got exactly what we came for and were in and out in 15 minutes. We couldn't pick up the item in the store so we had to drive around back to the warehouse. That is where the line's began…..
We were half inside, half outside, and it was COLD! My nose and lower body was freezing. We waited in this line for over an hour! I was so happy to get back in the car!!
RC Willey was just around the corner, and when we drove by earlier in the morning there were only a few people waiting in line. We figured we'd be safe to ride it out in the car. We parked and watched as the line doubled in just 15 minutes. You know what that meant right? Yup, we went out and stood in line. It was 5:45am, and the store did not open until 8:00am! WHAT THE FREAK! After 15 minutes I was frozen and didn't think I could take much more. I walked across the street to Burger King and brought us back some hot chocolate.
The heat from the hot chocolate helped warm my hands, but my face and lower body were suffering. I wished so bad I would have brought camping chairs, a blanket, and fifty more coats. Then like a beam of light from heaven, I suddenly remembered that we had 2 HUGE moving blankets in the back of Dave's car. YAY!!!! Dave went and got the blankets and I wrapped myself up and got so warm! After another hour of standing, I started to get tired, so I layed down and took a litle nap. People in line were laughing because I looked like a homeless person…check it out
lol…I guess I do look like a homeless person, Oh well…I was warm and got to sleep a little bit.
When the doors finally opened, we rushed/ran to the electronics and quickly got the TV that Dave wanted. YAY!! We rushed to pay and were out of there in a jiffy!
Wow!! What a Black Friday experience. It was fun/stupid/tiring/cold/funny/annoying/exciting/stupid. I'm not sure I'll do it again next year, I guess it depends on what type of sales there are. Dave ended up saying $600 on his purchases, so all in all it was a success!!
My one request for coming along and keeping Dave company was that we go to breakfast afterwards. Dave is not the biggest breakfast fan and is NEVER repeat NEVER in the mood to go out for breakfast (which I love to do). So after the waiting in line fiascal, we headed over to a local breakfast place and had the most yummy breakfast EVER!! It seriously made all of the hassle worth it!! YUMMO!
If we do it again next year I am going to dress for a blizzard, bring camping chairs, blankets, hot chocolate, breakfast, and a lap top with a movie to watch. If I would have been prepared like that this year, it would have been a breeze!!
QA: Do you do the Black Friday thing?
If so, what did you purchase this year?
How long is the longest you've waited in line?

Ohmigosh, you really do look like a homeless person, LOL! I don't ever get up and shop early, but usually go earlier in the day. I am bad with bargains, though.

LOVE your homeless pic! You are a riot. I have never done black friday and never plan to. My Men actually took a family vote (of course 2 against 1 isn't really a vote) to put off Christmas till New Years so they can NOT deal with the holiday hoopla AND cash in on after Christmas deals. (sorta the same thing) but Black Friday is so stressfull to me.
You guys were in the perfect position to pick up a few things you need for your new home so I think it was totally worth it.
also My hubs sat outside all night once to get the new Xbox 360 a few years a go. I had to bring him a sleeping bag and warm food. He's a nut. Kyle wanted to join him but he was 10 and had a cold.
NOPE.
crazy shoppers!
(i love breakfast out too)

hahaha!! I love that you laid down and took a nap! Sounds like you found some great deals! This was the first year I have ever done Black Friday. My mom and I went to Wal-Mart. We got there right at 5 and were able to get everything we wanted. I got a TomTom for my husband for $58! All in all was able to find gifts for 6 people on my list all for less than $200.

Cute post! My husband and I discovered quite by chance that many of the outlets near us in Jersey have their items priced for the sales on Wednesday, before Thanksgiving! Now that trip is a tradition for us; we get to shop without the crowds and to get first pick!

I LOVE breakfast too.. I always want to breakfast on the weekends but majority of the time I never go.

I did black friday last year and it rocked! So many deals. This year it didn't work out, but I got to the store at 5pm and scored a cheap movie.

LOL… love the "homeless" pic! I grew up participating in the shopping madness with my mom, sister, aunts, and cousins but this year I had to work… I was secretly relieved I had a good excuse not to go!

What a crazy experience! We don't have anything like Black Friday in Canada. Thank God because if my hubby knew he could save that much on electronics, I'd have been out there freezing my rear end off too!!
