yummus to hummus

I've never had hummus before. Strike that, one time back in February after reading KATH EATS, I tried to make her Lemon hummus, but I didn't have all the ingredients…and it did not turn out very good. (not to say the recipe isn't good….it was the person and the lack of proper ingredients that botched it!). Besides my one failed attempt to make hummus i'd never tried it before.

Hummus

Last week after reading one of my posts, my sister in-law called me (she calls instead of comments…which always makes me laugh, she doesn't have time to type it out, but I like the calls better, we talk much longer than any comment). She asked me if I had bought any hummus. I obviously hadn't, so she told me where to find it and what kinds she likes. I headed to the store that night to pick some up. We tried it right when we got home, both Dave and I were very curious (Dave has never had it either). OMGOSH!!! I loved it! Absolutely loved it. We got spicy three peppers or something like that. I could not believe how much I loved this stuff. I immediately added it to our lunch for the next day. We bought a pretty big container, and by yesterday night it was gone! We LOVE it! I've been putting it on everything! I know I am the last person in the world to try and love hummus, but oh well….FYI…I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!

I have been putting it on my sandwiches, pitas, dipping my crackers, veggies and fingers in it. I'm sure i'll come up with a million other ways to use it too!

In case I didn't mention it…I heart hummus

Hummus I love it

New Moon
Dave and I saw New Moon last night. It was good. I liked it, but I did not LOVE it. I didn't read the books, so I don't consider myself a true Twilight fan, but I did really like the first one. I realize the second one had better effects and acting, but I think I liked the story of the first one better than the second one?  Also, I didn't feel the chemistry between Bella and Edward like I did on the first one….I was excited for that part but didn't ever feel it.  I wanted to get butterflies like I did last time, but instead I wondered why they seemed so awkward and unhappy when they were together, she seemed happier and more in love with Jacob than Edward?? Don't get me wrong, "I chose him (Edward), it has always been him".  I just didn't feel their magical passion/chemistry this time. I still really enjoyed watching it and am glad we went to see it!

Oh, oh…also, Dave and I couldn't help laughing every time we saw Jacob and his long hair. He looked like a lion and it cracked us up. The girls next to us kept giving us dirty looks every time we would laugh…I think we were offending them!! lol! He just looked too funny to keep it in!

QA: What are your thoughts on New Moon? Loved it, Liked it, hated it? Do tell. Also..did you read the book?
Do you have yummy hummus recipe you'll share with me??

I really love hummus, although I've never made it myself. I've tried roasted red pepper hummus which was delicious and Lemon and coriander hummus, which I didn't like I think it was to lemony.
I haven't seen or read any of the Twilight series. I think if I were going to I'd rather read it than watch it, but if it comes on TV I'll watch it.

Where have you been, girl? Hummus is sooooo good!!! My family thinks I'm a hippie b/c I love it so much, but to my husband and I, it is normal. We don't understand people who give it funny looks or say ewwww! they obviously have never tried it before! I finally got my mom to try it last year, and she said the same thing that you did! She didn't realize how good it tasted! I guess she was expected some hippie granola thing… ;)

New Moon – love, obviously. I would think it would be hard to really feel the emotion of the movie if you haven't read the book since a LOT of the book is really just describing her thoughts, not actions. (So yeah obviously I'm pretty die hard based on that comment) I'm pretty team Jacob now I have to say.

No I've never made hummus, I would rather just look at that cutsie picture of the heart drawn around your hummus.

  4. Jessica @ How Sweet It Is on 2009.11.24

I haven't read the books, but enjoyed the first movie, too. I haven't seen the 2nd yet. My hubby refuses to go see it with all the screaming teens.

never. had. hummus. before. ??? !!! oh my god! (Ok.. enough crazy emotions for one day). Glad you got to try some good hummus now. ;) My life without hummus would be absolutely impossible, hehe.

I'll see New Moon tomorrow and I can't wait!! It's the "darkest" book of the series which is also probably why there's not much chemistry between Bella and Edward in the film (Edward leaves her, Jacob "saves" her…).
I still can't wait to go and see it! :)

  6. Krista on 2009.11.24

New Moon (the book) is definitely more focused on Jacob. I'm eager to see it. I plan to take my daughter this weekend.

    Try hummus with eggs. Heaven!

Hummus and Eggs??? That is totally something I would not have thought of…but yum! Sounds so good! I’ll try it for sure!!

  8. Courtney on 2009.11.24

There is nothing that doesn't taste better with hummus!! HA! One of my fave warm and filling meals is a sweet potato with some cottage cheese and hummus on it. SO GOOD and filling!

Sabra hummus is the best in my opinion…so smooth and creamy and such a nice balance of flavors. Plus I can get it in a massive size at Costco! Loves!!

I will have to try it. I’ve never looked at Costco, and I totally need massive amounts for a good price. Thanks hun, I’ll check it out for sure!!

  10. Madeline on 2009.11.24

I love the costco hummus too! I have a great recipe for edamame jalapeno hummus if you like a little spice! I have not seen New Moon yet, but I have read the book. It was definitely my 2nd least favorite book (the 4th one was BY FAR the worst), so I'm not exactly rushing to see it. Once the crowds die down I'll go check it out though!

oh yes…hummus is the bomb. how did i not tell you that ! HA

I keep trying to make it but it's dry. i love it in wraps too and quesedillas. oh the limitless options.

new moon? oh boy. haven't a clue. we get out to a movie once a decade so I miss a lot. never saw twilight either. boo.

I can talk Sci fi or Harry potter or Star Wars (teenager) but vampires and romance I haven't figured out yet (my teen ager said they sparkle when they get killed…is that true?)

    Ha
I had hummus at home…why did i not pack some?

Not a recipe so much, but my dad always thirds his hummus recipe and adds extra garlic to one, sun dried tomatoes to one, and fresh basil to another. Colorful and super yummy!!

You must try the Sabra brand of hummus. It's the best.

I've never had much luck making it on my own.

Hi Natalie! Thanks for the comment you left on my blog today — appreciate it!
And I was SO glad to read your review of New Moon – because I felt EXACTLY the same way. I thought they did a nice job of following the book, the CGI and cinematography were beautiful, but it was TOTALLY lacking in emotion. For such a long movie, I left feeling a little unfulfilled. Guess I'll have to go back and re-read New Moon and experience it all again in my own mind!

    have a great day!

I love hummus too. I read all of the Twilight books. New Moon was my least favorite because it was Jacob heavy. Oh well. I loved the movie. I thought it was better than the first one.

I recently tried hummus too. I didn't think I would like it but now I love it. The one I tried was the spinach and jalapeno. I also bought the pita chips to dip in the hummus.

Oh my GOSH! Never had hummus? It's one of those foods that I think I'd die without :-)

Honestly, I've made several different homemade recipes, but none of them come close to Sabra brand's classic hummus. It is soooo smooth and creamy. You should pick some up– I think most grocery stores carry it.

  22. Kasey (Fit For Wellness) on 2009.11.24

I heart hummus too!! I usually just buy my hummus… I have tried to make hummus twice at home. The first attempt was very successful and the second attempt was pretty horrible. I think I need to upgrade my tiny food processor before I try again.

  23. Cara (Cara Craves...) on 2009.11.25

I have yet to see New Moon yet, but will on the weekend. From what I remember from the books, the weird feeling between Edward and Bella exist in the book as well…I think it stemmed from the fact that Edward loved Bella so much but her did not want to be putting her in danger and was trying to push her away because of that.
    I sound like some crazy die-hard fan…Ha!

    Have a happy thanksgiving!
